Committed to their plans to spark students‘ interest in the shipping industry, the Port Authority of the Cayman Islands (PACI) and the Women‘s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) Cayman Islands, took part in the CIFEC Career Expo, 21-22 September, 2017. PACI has also partnered with CIFEC and will be providing internships for students in CIFEC‘s Internship Program.
Several Port staff and WISTA members were present at the expo to educate students about the Port‘s operations, career opportunities in the shipping industry, and the Cayman Maritime scholarship.
The Port Director, Mr. Clement Reid, stated, “This is the Port‘s first time taking part in this expo, but we see the importance of participating in these types of events and internship programs. Students gain firsthand knowledge and experience, and advice about what is required in this industry. In this way, the Port further supports Cayman‘s future through knowledge and opportunities, in addition to its operations that facilitate international trade.ˮ
Mrs. Dorisley Jackson, President of WISTA (Cayman Islands), said, “There are extensive opportunities in the shipping industry across the world and we hope to encourage more students to pursue careers in this industry.ˮ
