The management of PACI gathered on Sept 24, 2021 to celebrate what has become a lifetime of service for one of its employees, Keith Brown. Keith started working with the Port on May 10, 1971. This was before there was a Port Authority and when the Port was managed by Customs. On his first day he was tasked with the duties of a laborer. Shortly thereafter he was assigned duties of a Tally Clerk and eventually the duties of a Small Forklift Operator and Mechanic. In those days the ships tied up at the iron shore at Hogsty Bay and cargo in the ship’s hold was loaded into nets and swung onto the shore by the ship’s crane.  The forklift would pick it up and place it in the warehouse. When the first large forklift arrived, Keith was assigned to operator it and has been operating the Large forklifts ever since.  Fifty years on, Keith still remains as one of PACI’s most dependable, reliable and competent Large Forklift Operators.

And so, it is with much pride and happiness that we celebrate this awesome milestone with Keith. While PACI has a large number of staff who have served more than 20 years and some who have served more than 30 years as well, Keith has the distinction of being PACI’s longest serving employee with over 50 years of  service. His Manager, Will Jacobs, commented that Keith is the most reliable, dependable, committed, pleasant and respectful employee that he has had the privilege of working with. Thank you Keith for being such an outstanding employee.

The CI Government has just gazetted the latest regulations to control the spread of Covid-19 in the Cayman Islands.  Please see the new regulations on the Gazette Office website.

The Port Authority of the Cayman Islands is monitoring the recent discovery of the Covid-19 virus in one area of the community and will be implementing some precautionary measures until the level of spread, if any, has been determined.  Effective immediately we are requiring that all visitors entering our facilities to wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth, sanitize your hands on entry and practice social distancing.  Our Security will be on hand to assist and we appreciate your cooperation.  We will also sanitize our public service counters prior to serving each customer for your safety as well.  The Port Authority of the Cayman Islands is committed to the safety and health of our staff and our community and we thank you for your cooperation as we continue to monitor the situation.

With the all clear given by the C.I. Government, the Port Authority will be reopening to the public today.  Our Billing Office will be open from 11am and our warehouse will open at 1pm.

A small craft warning is in effect from Thursday through Sunday due to strong east to southeast winds and rough seas.

Good Afternoon. The Port Authority’s Cargo Distribution Centre (CDC) roof received some damage. As a result, PACI now has to assess and catalog the damage to the roof and cargo, clean up and restore the facility to a safe state to receive customers. With the torrential rain and prevailing weather conditions, that is impossible to achieve today. PACI therefore anticipates reopening CDC to the public on Friday morning.

The Port Authority’s Cayman Brac office will open Thursday, August 19th at 8am.

Tropical Storm Grace Warning

The Port Authority will close its vessel berthing facilities and its Cargo Distribution Warehouse at 2pm Tuesday, with the expectation of both facilities reopening to the public on Thursday morning.

With the approach of Tropical Storm Grace, it is likely that the three islands could experience Tropical Storm winds and rough seas along its coasts from Tuesday evening until Wednesday evening. Owners of vessels moored along the shoreline of all three islands should either remove them or seek safe harbour for them. PACI encourages all marine traffic in Cayman waters to monitor the weather forecast provided by the National Weather Service.

The East End and the Brac Lighthouse is now working again.
