Labourer (Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac)

Salary Grade Q: CI$31,827.60 to CI$41,769.00 per annum

The Labourer is responsible for the safe and efficient loading/ unloading of various cargo types from shipping equipment as well as various other tasks necessary at the Port Authority of the Cayman Islands (“PACI”) to ensure the safe delivery of our customers cargo. The postholder must be a self-starter, a team player and safety-oriented. They should be focused and comply with the regulations, procedures and policies of the PACI and other regulatory bodies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lashes and unlashes gear from shipping equipment.
  • Unloads, identifies and sorts cargo from shipping equipment.
  • Locks pins on PACI’s trucks chassis prior to departing PACI’s facilities and unlocks pins on PACI’s trucks chassis on entrance to PACI’s facilities.
  • Secures cargo and wraps pallets.
  • Cleans and maintains PACI facilities.
  • Washes equipment.
  • Relocates vehicles to/from PACI inland terminal.
  • Ensures all cargo is handled in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Safely performs all of the essential functions of this job to minimize risk of injury to self and others as well as to minimize risk of damage to job-related equipment.
  • Reports any areas where efficiency and effectiveness may be improved.
  • Assists in any area and task necessary for pre/post potential natural disaster.
  • Communicates progress, delays or problems (actual or anticipated) to supervisor(s).
  • Ensures correct and professional use of all radio communication systems.
  • Reports all safety concerns, hazards and incidents timely.
  • Strives to achieve consistently high levels of productivity and customer service, meeting the performance targets that will be set and reviewed on a rolling basis.
  • Meets the performance targets that will be set and reviewed on a regular basis.
  • Ensures compliance to all policies, procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (“SOP”), with recommendations for action and continuous improvement.
  • Attend and participate in all operational and development training that is provided by the PACI.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School graduate, preferred.
  • Must be able to read and write English.
  • Basic math skills preferred.
  • Valid drivers license, and a group four (4) is a benefit.
  • Team player and goal oriented.
  • Punctual and adaptable.
  • Solid understanding of job-related tools, materials and methods.
  • Knowledge of safety principles, practices and ability to perform all duties in a safe manner.
  • The ability to perform all duties in a safe manner.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and clear vision & depth perception
  • Self-starter and able to use sound judgement.
